From Florence To Rome on the ancient Via Cassia
The anciet via Cassia was built by ancient romans over various etruscan roads, to connect Rome with Florence, about in the II century BC.
Today Via Cassia is a modern highway, that offers wonderful panoramic views in the central Italy, passing through Siena and a quantity of amazing medieval towns.
The route can be done in one day or more slowly sleeping in the farmhouses that are on the itinerary. The distance, from Florence to Rome, over the via Cassia is about 5 hours driving, so we suggest one or two days trip if you can't take more time.
With a ONE DAY TRIP, we suggest to take all the day. Those are three stops that we suggest:
Monteriggioni (a walking throuh the entire village take 30 minutes, with a coffee break one hour) a medieval village completely surrounded by its original walls
Radicofani (a little detour of 20 kilometers, a rapid visit will take 30 minute about) a castle with a amazing views over Val d'Orcia
Bolsena (a medieval village over the Bolsena lake)
First Day stops in:
Barberino Val d'Elsa
Monteriggioni
Buonconvento
Overnight stay in Pienza, this is a little detour but it's worth.
Second Day stops in:
Radicofani
Bolsena
For who arrive with train or plane it's possible to rent a car in Florence of Rome. A comfortable way to make the trip is taking a driven car, in one of the many Rome or Florence car rent with driver.
