Tour on the roads of "Eroica" cyclyng race
L'Eroica is one of the most singular historical recall cycling races in Tuscany, usually held during the final week-end of September, held over the Chianti's dirty tracks, that are the real protagonists of this singular race.
The Eroica race covers over one hundred kilometres of primarily unpaved roads departing from and returning to Gaiole in Chianti, its particularity consists on the fact that no mountain bikes or modern bicycles are allowed: competitors run with vintage bicycles and jersey that could be admired by spectators. Spectators are able to relieve the excitement of raw athletic competition and admire vintage bicycles and cycling jersey while competitors run with spare tubes slung around their necks as in days of yore.
In addition to vintage bicycles , the racers are trailed by an entourage of vintage automobiles and motorcycles to render more attractive the event.
This is cycling tour over the roads of Tuscany, a leap into the past, when cycling races split Italy in two different factions, each cheering on the rival champions Coppi and Bartali, the two famous cyclists, symbol of Italian cycling in the world.
The Eroica race is among the most expected events in Tuscany, attracting each year a great number of visitors coming not only from Italy but all around the world.
